The Los Angeles Chargers placed tight end David Njoku on Reserve/Injured as of September 23, 2026. To address roster needs following Njoku’s injury, the team signed veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to the active roster and added long snapper Spencer Triplett to the practice squad on the same day.
Valdes-Scantling brings eight NFL seasons of experience, having entered the league as a fifth-round pick by the Green Bay Packers in the 2018 NFL Draft. Over his career, he has played for six teams, including the Packers, Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, New Orleans Saints, San Francisco 49ers, and Pittsburgh Steelers. He has accumulated 3,686 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns on 219 receptions, averaging 16.8 yards per catch. Noted for his deep-threat ability, Valdes-Scantling ranks third in the NFL since 2018 with five touchdown receptions of 70 yards or more. His best season was in 2020, when he recorded career highs of 690 receiving yards and six touchdowns.
In postseason play, he has started seven of 12 games, recording 27 receptions for 432 yards and four touchdowns, including two Super Bowl championships while with Kansas City.
Spencer Triplett, signed to the practice squad, played six seasons at the University of North Carolina (2020-25) as a long snapper, known for his accuracy on field goals and extra points. He was a candidate for the Patrick Mannelly Award, which honors the best long snapper in college football.
CSB Take
David Njoku’s move to injured reserve presents a setback for the Los Angeles Chargers’ tight end depth and offensive versatility. The addition of Marquez Valdes-Scantling injects veteran experience and a potent deep threat into the receiving corps, potentially offsetting Njoku’s absence. Furthermore, signing Triplett strengthens the Chargers’ special teams by securing a reliable long snapper on the practice squad. These moves reflect strategic adjustments to maintain team competitiveness amid injuries.
