The East Los Angeles College Men’s Wrestling team returned to its home mats with strong individual performances but narrowly fell to Cuesta College, 28-30, in a tightly contested dual meet on October 2, 2026. The Huskies claimed five individual wins, including four by pinfall, but Cuesta’s four forfeit victories ultimately proved decisive in the team scoring.
Freshmen led the charge for East LA College, starting with Hugo Gordillo’s pinfall at 133 pounds, followed by Bradley Chavez at 141 pounds. Ranked No. 7 in the state, freshman Lincoln Chung added a pinfall at 149 pounds over Cuesta’s Drake Mello. Vince Hernandez secured a decision victory at 157 pounds, and Dawson Hill capped the Huskies’ efforts with an impressive pinfall at 184 pounds. East LA wrestling expert Chris Nunez described Hill’s match as “the best of the night,” praising Hill’s aggressive style and control over Cuesta’s Sevryn Salisbury.
The Huskies entered the final bout with a narrow lead, but freshman heavyweight Ramon Gonzalez was pinned by Cuesta’s Khash DeMartini, which swung the team score in favor of Cuesta. Nunez also noted Cuesta’s admiration for Chung’s consistent scoring and aggression throughout his match.
Both East Los Angeles College and Cuesta College will compete the following day in the Santa Ana Individual Tournament.
