The University of the Pacific Tigers womens soccer team made program history Friday evening by earning its first-ever point on the road against the Portland Pilots in a 1-1 draw at Merlo Field. Senior Kaya Rosa scored the Tigers sole goal in the 19th minute, assisted by Julie Valdez and Janelli Villagran for her team-leading fifth goal of the 2026 campaign. Portland equalized late in the 85th minute with a header from Hailey Bagby.
Despite being outshot 14-5, the Tigers displayed disciplined defense and strong goalkeeping from freshman Ava Wells, who made several crucial saves in the second half. Defender Nora Cullen contributed significantly by playing the full 90 minutes and helping the Tigers maintain defensive composure in the closing stages.
The result improved Pacifics overall record to 1-9-1 and 0-1-1 in West Coast Conference play, while Portland fell to 4-6-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the league. Pacifics next game is scheduled at Santa Claras Buck Shaw Field at Stevens Stadium with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
CSB Take
This historic point marks meaningful progress for the Pacific Tigers womens soccer program within the West Coast Conference. Kaya Rosas consistent scoring threat, combined with a resilient defensive effort anchored by Ava Wells and Nora Cullen, signals growth that the Tigers can build upon as they continue WCC play. This result not only breaks new ground for Pacific on Portlands home field but also provides confidence for the challenging matches ahead.
