The Anaheim Ducks beat the Calgary Flames 4–2 at Scotiabank Saddledome on Oct. 10. Ryan Poehling scored the short-handed winner in the third period, and Ville Husso made 27 saves. The victory left Anaheim 4–1–0 through five games.
Calgary answers Anaheim's early leads
Jackson LaCombe opened the scoring on the power play before Morgan Frost answered for Calgary. Frank Vatrano put the Ducks back in front late in the first period. Aydar Suniev's second-period goal then tied the game at two.
Poehling broke the tie at 5:35 of the third period. Nikita Nesterenko added another goal with 2:57 left, giving Anaheim a needed cushion. Mikael Granlund recorded two assists, while Poehling finished with a goal and an assist.
Two points come with injury concerns
The win also brought injury concerns for Anaheim. Poehling left after the scoring play, and Cutter Gauthier departed early with an upper-body injury. Their exits require follow-up team updates rather than assumptions about how long either player might miss.
CSB Take
Anaheim found a winning play while short-handed and protected its lead with a late goal. Husso's work in net helped give the Ducks a chance to finish a close game. The team can take the two points while its next roster decisions depend on clearer information about the injured forwards.
