The San Jose Barracuda lost to the Tucson Roadrunners 4–1 at Tech CU Arena on Oct. 10. San Jose converted only one of 10 power-play opportunities. The defeat left the Barracuda 1–3–0–0 after four games.
How the game unfolded
Tucson led 1–0 after the first period and scored three more goals in the second. The Roadrunners’ scoring included a power-play goal by Caleb Desnoyers and a shorthanded goal by Yegor Borikov. Roland McKeown finally scored for San Jose on the power play with 1:31 remaining in regulation.
San Jose outshot Tucson 36–29, but Jaxson Stauber made 35 saves for the Roadrunners. Matt Davis stopped 25 shots for the Barracuda. Eric Pohlkamp led all players with seven shots on goal.
CSB Take
The Barracuda created enough shooting volume to make the game more competitive than its score. Their man advantages produced too little, and allowing a shorthanded goal made the problem worse. San Jose needs cleaner power-play execution so those opportunities change the game before a large deficit develops.
