The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags defeated the La Verne Leopards 27–18 on Oct. 10 in La Verne. Owen Walz ran for two touchdowns, and Robert Litscher threw two touchdown passes. CMS improved to 4–1 overall and remained unbeaten in SCIAC play at 3–0.
Conversions help preserve the lead
The Stags built a 13–0 lead in the opening quarter before La Verne closed to within one point. Evan Gerber and Zeke Vallez blocked the Leopards’ extra-point attempts after their first two touchdowns. A failed two-point conversion later kept La Verne behind 20–18.
Litscher completed 14 of 22 passes for 250 yards and two scores. Walz added 66 rushing yards on 15 carries, including the final touchdown that restored a nine-point lead. Joseph Kessler led CMS with 16 tackles, while Andrew Carrasquillo intercepted La Verne’s final drive.
CSB Take
CMS earned the result through offensive responses and valuable special-teams stops. The blocked conversions preserved an advantage even as La Verne kept finding the end zone. The Leopards’ missed scoring opportunities made each later drive more demanding.
