Angel City FC earned five places on the NWSL September Best XI, the club announced in an Oct. 2 news release. Interim coach Leif Smerud also received Coach of the Month honors. Angel City finished September with four victories and one draw.
The performances behind the honors
Goalkeeper Angelina Anderson and defenders Sarah Gorden and Evelyn Shores were selected. Midfielders Ally Sentnor and Maiara Niehues completed the club’s five-player group. The recognition covered contributions across several positions.
Anderson recorded nine saves and three shutouts during the month. Niehues scored the late winner in the 1–0 victory at Washington on Sept. 26. That goal raised her season total to a club-record nine.
CSB Take
The award group reflects more than one productive scorer. Angel City received recognition for defending, goalkeeping and midfield contributions during its unbeaten month. Carrying those performances into the remaining fixtures is the practical next test.
