Riverside City College Tigers Women’s Basketball Drops Close Games at Title IX Classic

Riverside City College Tigers women’s basketball opened the 2026-27 season with close losses to Cosumnes River and East Los Angeles at the Title IX Classic, featuring strong contributions from Skyy Felder and Kaitlyn Garcia.

Riverside City College Tigers women’s basketball opened their 2026-27 season with two narrow losses at the fifth annual Title IX Classic, held October 29 and 30 at Wheelock Gymnasium in Riverside, California. The Tigers fell 60-58 to the Cosumnes River Hawks in their opening game before losing 71-60 to the East Los Angeles Diablos the following day.

Skyy Felder contributed strong performances off the bench, scoring 14 points against Cosumnes River and 15 points versus East Los Angeles, while also grabbing seven rebounds in each game. Kaitlyn Garcia posted a double-double in the opener with 11 points and 13 rebounds and led Riverside with 19 points in the second contest.

Despite holding leads in both games, Riverside was unable to close either matchup. The Tigers struggled with their shooting percentages, converting 29.7 percent of field goals against Cosumnes River and 31.1 percent against East Los Angeles. Turnovers and fouls hampered the team’s efforts, with Riverside committing 32 turnovers in the first game that led to 31 Cosumnes River points, and 17 turnovers combined with 35 fouls in the second game.

Riverside outrebounded Cosumnes River 59-46 in the opener but was narrowly outrebounded 46-45 by East Los Angeles in the following game. Other contributors included Ahjoy Turner’s 12 points and four steals in the first game and Amia McKinney’s team-high eight rebounds in the second.

The Tigers are scheduled to play next at Los Angeles Valley College on Saturday, November 7, at 1 p.m.

CSB Take

The Riverside City College Tigers women’s basketball team’s season-opening losses at the Title IX Classic reveal areas for growth despite promising individual performances. Skyy Felder’s scoring consistency and Kaitlyn Garcia’s rebounding and point production stand out as key strengths. However, the high number of turnovers and foul trouble greatly impacted the team’s ability to secure wins. Focusing on ball control and discipline will be critical for Riverside as it aims to build momentum in the early part of its schedule.
