The Los Angeles Kings signed forward Jared Wright to a two-year contract extension on Oct. 10. The deal carries an average annual value of $925,000 and runs through the 2028–29 season. It followed Wright's Oct. 9 recall from the Ontario Reign.
Ontario scoring helps earn the recall
Wright had scored in each of his first two AHL appearances this season. One of those goals was the overtime winner in Ontario's opening game against the Coachella Valley Firebirds. His early production gave Los Angeles another option as injuries tested its forward depth.
The Kings' Oct. 9 team report highlighted Wright's speed and work on the forecheck. Wright also discussed improving his decisions with the puck and taking shooting chances when they appear. Those are useful areas to develop as he works toward a regular NHL role.
Building an NHL role
Wright recorded four assists in 23 NHL regular-season games last season. His scoring start in Ontario gave him a different kind of early-season result before the recall. The extension adds certainty to his contract situation while his role still depends on how he performs for the Kings.
CSB Take
The Kings have committed to a forward who can bring pace and pressure to their depth group. Wright now has an opportunity to turn those qualities into reliable NHL contributions. A contract extension is a vote of confidence, while sustained production will determine how much responsibility he earns.
