Oakland Roots SC highlighted its work at Lincoln Square Park in an Oct. 5 community update. The club partnered with Anthem Blue Cross and Airbnb to refresh the mini soccer pitch in Oakland’s Chinatown. The upgraded space opened in March.
The pitch and recent clinic
The update featured a recent youth clinic led by Roots players. Community leaders and project sponsors also took part. The playing space is intended for local children and families.
The project extends the club’s community involvement beyond match days. Its partners connected the pitch improvements with continued soccer activity. The clinic provided a recent example of players using the space with local participants.
CSB Take
A renovated pitch has greater value when people continue using it. The clinic connects the physical improvement with an actual program for young players. Sustained access and activity will determine the project’s lasting benefit.
