The San Jose Barracuda erased two separate two-goal deficits to beat the San Diego Gulls 5–4 in overtime on Oct. 4. Roland McKeown scored the winner at 3:01 of the extra period at Tech CU Arena. Filip Bystedt finished with two goals and an assist for San Jose.

How the game unfolded

San Diego led 2–0 in the first period before San Jose recovered to tie it by intermission. The Gulls then moved ahead 4–2 in the second period on goals by Roger McQueen and Anton Wahlberg. Andre Gasseau pulled the Barracuda within one, and Bystedt tied the game on a third-period power play.

Ethan Cardwell and Tye Felhaber each recorded three assists for San Jose. Matt Davis stopped 28 shots to earn the win, while Damian Clara made 28 saves for San Diego. The Barracuda held a narrow 33–32 advantage in shots.

CSB Take

San Jose kept generating the next useful chance after both of its early setbacks. San Diego earned a standings point, but twice losing a two-goal lead puts the defensive response under scrutiny. The lesson is specific for both clubs: a lead needs protection, and a deficit can still be repaired when the next shift produces a clear chance.
