Cal Poly defeated No. 16 Idaho State 25–24 in football in Pocatello, Idaho on Oct. 10. Anthony Grigsby Jr. found Misa Paiau for a five-yard touchdown with 40 seconds remaining. Josue Lopez’s extra point supplied the winning margin.
How the game unfolded
The Mustangs trailed 24–18 before regaining possession with 1:41 left. Grigsby completed three of his first four passes on the drive, including a 37-yard gain to Tayvion McCoy. Demetrius Simon then intercepted Idaho State’s final drive to protect the result.
Grigsby finished with 198 passing yards and two rushing touchdowns. McCoy led Cal Poly with 78 receiving yards, while RL Miller recorded 10 tackles and an interception. The Mustangs improved to 4–3 overall and 3–1 in Big Sky play.
CSB Take
Cal Poly paired a composed final drive with the defensive play needed to finish the upset. The one-point margin made the extra point and the last interception as important as the touchdown itself. The Mustangs now have a concrete example of how late-game execution can turn a difficult road position into a conference win.
