STOCKTON, Calif. — The Cal Poly women’s soccer team earned a decisive 4-1 victory over Pacific on September 10, 2026, at Knoles Field. Senior captain Sophia Minnite and junior Ruby Casey both scored their first collegiate goals during the match, highlighting a strong offensive performance for the Mustangs.
The scoring began late in the first half when junior Miah Thomas converted a penalty kick to put Cal Poly ahead 1-0. Thomas recorded her fourth goal of the season, tied for third most in the Big West Conference. Cal Poly held that lead into halftime.
In the 67th minute, Minnite scored on a shot to the top left corner after receiving a pass from junior transfer Sam Liaty. Shortly after, Pacific scored to narrow the margin to 2-1. However, Cal Poly quickly responded as junior forward Isis Salazar-Ortega, in her first appearance for the Mustangs after transferring from Cal State Bakersfield, scored a long-range goal following a turnover near Pacific’s goal.
The Mustangs sealed their victory in the 78th minute on a header by Ruby Casey, assisted by senior Annika Smith and junior Lauren Collier. Cal Poly outshot Pacific 14-7 and recorded half of those shots on goal.
Head coach Bernardo Silva praised the team’s effort, noting the emergence of offensive production after dedicated work in recent days. The four goals marked the most scored by Cal Poly since a 5-1 win over Nevada in September 2024.
CSB Take
Cal Poly’s dominant offensive output against Pacific demonstrated the value of contributions from both seasoned leaders and newer players. Senior Sophia Minnite breaking through with her first goal and juniors Ruby Casey and Isis Salazar-Ortega scoring in key moments underscore the Mustangs’ growing offensive versatility. Maintaining this scoring momentum will be crucial as Cal Poly continues its Big West Conference campaign and prepares for upcoming nonconference challenges.
