How the game unfolded
Bakersfield won the opening sets 25–16 and 29–27. UC Riverside answered with 25–18 and 27–25 victories to force a fifth set. The Highlanders could not carry that recovery into the final frame.
Evelyn Hendrix recorded a career-high eight kills for Riverside. Andrea Brewer also reached double figures in kills during the match. The defeat left the Highlanders 4–13 overall and 0–6 in conference play.
CSB Take
Bakersfield needed a reset after its early advantage disappeared, and the fifth set supplied it. Riverside’s response across the third and fourth sets showed it could compete, but the deciding frame exposed another gap. Both teams have a clear review of how to sustain their strongest stretches through the end of a match.
