The Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes defeated the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds 5–1 in men’s soccer on Oct. 11 at Premier Field in San Bernardino. Five players scored as the Coyotes earned their 10th victory of the season. San Bernardino improved to 10–1–2 overall and 6–1 in CCAA play.
Five scorers build the win
Rafa Fonseca and Nevin Rueegger scored in the opening 15 minutes. Fresno Pacific answered in the 30th minute, but Josiah Martinez restored the two-goal margin before halftime. The Coyotes led 3–1 at the break.
Jahir Gonzalez-Sandoval and Christopher Mencos added late goals to complete the scoring. Donovan Palomares made five saves for San Bernardino. The Coyotes finished with an 18–9 advantage in shots, including nine attempts on goal.
CSB Take
San Bernardino responded to Fresno Pacific’s goal without allowing the match to become a sustained comeback attempt. The Coyotes received goals from across the lineup and finished strongly. The Sunbirds need better defensive control after scoring to keep that response from being erased quickly.
