LA Kings Launch 2026 NHL Rookie Faceoff With Prospect Henry Brzustewicz Leading Roster

The LA Kings start the 2026 Rookie Faceoff with top prospect Henry Brzustewicz leading the team in a three-game, four-day tournament against San Jose, Anaheim and Utah.

The LA Kings began their participation in the 2026 NHL Rookie Faceoff on September 12, 2026, with a game against the host San Jose Sharks at Tech CU Arena in San Jose, California. The Kings are scheduled to play three games in four days, facing San Jose, Anaheim, and Utah, aiming to develop their top young talent.

Leading the Kings’ contingent is defenseman Henry Brzustewicz, the 2025 first-round draft pick who made his professional debut at this event. Brzustewicz is a 2025 Memorial Cup champion who led the Ontario Hockey League’s London Knights in scoring last season and appeared in 10 American Hockey League games with the Ontario Reign during the 2026 regular season and playoffs.

The Kings are coached by Ontario Reign Head Coach Andrew Lord, who guided the team to a Pacific Division championship in his first season. He is supported by assistant coaches Mike Haviland and Brad Schuler, along with goaltending coach Adam Brown. Offensively, the Kings rely on forwards Kenny Connors and Jared Wright, both with NHL experience from the previous season. Wright played in 23 NHL regular-season games and all four Stanley Cup Playoff games last season, while Connors appeared in two games.

Goaltending duties are expected to be shared between prospects Carter George and Hampton Slukynsky. Additionally, forward Vojtech Cihar, a second-round 2025 draft pick and the 2026 World Junior Championships MVP, will make his Kings rookie debut after playing professionally in Europe.

The San Jose Sharks will feature their top pick, Ivar Stenberg, the 2026 World Junior gold medalist, also making his Rookie Faceoff debut. The tournament provides a competitive stage for these emerging NHL players to gain professional experience and showcase their abilities.

CSB Take

The LA Kings’ involvement in the 2026 Rookie Faceoff underscores their commitment to integrating highly skilled prospects like Henry Brzustewicz into their professional system. This event serves as a vital platform for young players to compete against their top-tier peers and accelerate their transition to the NHL. Observing these rookies in a high-stakes environment furnishes valuable insight for the organization’s future roster planning and development strategies aiming at sustained success.
