The 2026 Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer season officially began on Tuesday, September 28, with eight teams vying for the conference title. The lineup includes last year’s champion Irvine Valley, runners-up Cypress, and teams like Fullerton, Golden West, Saddleback, Santa Ana, Orange Coast, and Santiago Canyon entering conference play with varied momentum and ambitions.
Defending champions Irvine Valley, coached by 2025 Coach of the Year Conor Ward, hold a 3-3-1 record so far. Their offense has been well distributed with twelve different players scoring. Leading the way is Jonathan Minney, the conference leader with four goals and nine points.
Cypress enters with a 2-3-1 record, featuring sophomore Gavin Lee with two goals and a team-best four points through six matches. They rotate through three goalkeepers: Yandel Saucedo, Andria Fanos and Luke Aguirre. Fullerton stands at 3-2-2, boasting an offense that has seen eleven different goal scorers so far in nonconference play.
Golden West has been defensively strong, conceding only eight goals over six games, tied with Santa Ana for the stingiest defense. However, their offense has struggled, having scored only four goals. Saddleback sits at 2-4-0 but has gained momentum with recent wins, including a 4-2 victory at Santa Barbara. Freshman Michael Barraza has been an instrumental forward with three goals and three assists.
Santa Ana holds a 3-2-1 record and recently posted back-to-back shutouts. Freshman midfielder Diego Guzman leads their offense with three goals and two assists. Goalkeepers Josue Barrios and Alejandro Quintero have combined for 25 saves, allowing eight goals total.
Orange Coast is currently facing challenges with an 0-5-2 record and a demanding schedule that includes nine consecutive road games before their first home match on October 9. Santiago Canyon, with a 1-4-0 record, has struggled offensively, enduring a four-game scoring drought as they prepare for conference play.
