San Diego State Aztecs Women’s Volleyball Aims to Extend Eight-Match Win Streak in Key Home Matches

Amid an eight-match winning streak and strong Pac-12 standing, San Diego State Aztecs women's volleyball prepares for crucial home matches versus Boise State and Washington State in their first Pac-12 season.

The San Diego State Aztecs women’s volleyball team continues its strong momentum as it prepares to host two crucial Pac-12 Conference opponents, Boise State Broncos and Washington State Cougars, at Peterson Gym in San Diego. The Aztecs, riding an eight-match winning streak, will face Boise State on October 29 and Washington State on October 31, 2026.

Currently holding an 8-1 Pac-12 record and positioned second behind Colorado State, the Aztecs have already defeated these opponents earlier this month with a 3-1 road win over Boise State and a 3-0 sweep of Washington State. These matches mark important steps in San Diego State’s inaugural Pac-12 season after transitioning from the Mountain West Conference under the leadership of head coach Brent Hilliard, now in his seventh season.

Key contributors to the team’s success include outside hitters Ella Schabort and Layla Austin, who have consistently recorded double-digit kills, and setter Kendall Mairs, who earned three consecutive Pac-12 Setter of the Week honors. Middle blockers Tessa Schouten and Taelyn Bentley anchor the defense and rank among the Pac-12 leaders in hitting percentage and blocks. The Aztecs collectively lead the conference in kills and assists and rank prominently in hitting percentage, digs, and blocks.

The team will engage fans with special events, including Halloween tote bags for the first 100 kids attending on October 29, accompanied by pregame trick-or-treating, and free volleyball admission on October 31 for fans presenting a football ticket from the day’s earlier SDSU-WSU football game.

Both matches will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 YouTube Channel with live stats available on GoAztecs.com.

CSB Take

San Diego State’s volleyball program is off to an impressive start in its first Pac-12 season, demonstrating a competitive edge through a lengthy winning streak and solid team statistics. The upcoming home matches offer a critical opportunity to reinforce their strong standing and build momentum. Coach Brent Hilliard’s experienced leadership coupled with the performances of key players like Kendall Mairs and Ella Schabort will be vital as the Aztecs aim to establish themselves as a top contender within the Pac-12.
