San Diego Wave FC clinched a playoff berth with a 2–1 victory at the Orlando Pride Friday, Oct. 2. Lia Godfrey and Gia Corley scored before halftime. The Wave improved to 16–8–3 with 51 points.
How the match unfolded
Godfrey opened the scoring in the fourth minute after an assist from Trinity Byars. Corley doubled the lead in the 22nd minute by finishing a rebound. San Diego entered halftime ahead 2–0.
Orlando reduced the deficit with a second-half penalty. The Wave held on through the closing stages to secure the result. San Diego qualified for the playoffs for the fourth time in five seasons.
CSB Take
The Wave built its advantage early and protected it after Orlando responded. That combination turned a road fixture into a confirmed postseason place. The remaining regular-season matches provide a chance to refine the same approach before elimination games begin.
