The University of San Francisco San Francisco Dons men’s basketball team opened their 2026-27 season with a 76-62 victory against the Radford Highlanders on November 2, 2026, at War Memorial Gym at Sobrato Center in San Francisco, California. Despite having 14 newcomers, the Dons controlled the game from start to finish and secured a 14-point win.
Freshman guard Dylan Bordon led San Francisco with 20 points and seven assists. Junior center Ismaila Diagne recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Forwards Gustav Knudsen and Ben Oosterbaan contributed 15 and 10 points, respectively. The Dons’ defense forced 19 turnovers from Radford while committing only nine himselfes.
Head coach Chris Gerlufsen praised the team’s ability to handle adversity in their season opener and expressed confidence in Diagne’s continued growth with more playing time. Gerlufsen also highlighted the strong team chemistry developing despite the roster largely composed of new players.
Additionally, forward Ndewedo “Chips” Newbury returned to play for the first time in nearly two years following a severe leg injury. Gerlufsen called Newbury’s return significant both mentally and for the team’s overall effort.
The Dons will host North Dakota State on November 6, 2026, for their next game during their season-opening homestand.
CSB Take
The San Francisco Dons’ convincing opening night win over Radford showcases their potential amid a significant roster turnover. Standout performances from Dylan Bordon and Ismaila Diagne lay a promising foundation, while Ndewedo Newbury’s return adds emotional and roster depth. As Coach Gerlufsen continues to build team chemistry, the Dons’ strong defense and balanced scoring position them well for a competitive West Coast Conference campaign this season.
