San Jose Giants Begin California League North Division Playoffs Against Stockton Ports

The San Jose Giants, defending California League champions with a record-setting offense led by top prospect Josuar Gonzalez, begin their North Division playoff series against the Stockton Ports.

The San Jose Giants, defending California League champions and top seed with an 80-52 record, start their North Division best-of-three playoff series against the Stockton Ports on Tuesday night in Stockton. The series will then move to San Jose’s Excite Ballpark for Games 2 and 3 if necessary on Thursday and Friday. The winner advances to the California League Championship Series beginning Sunday.

San Jose won both the first and second half North Division titles for the first time since 2009, posting a strong finish with a 20-2 record over their last 22 games. The Giants set club records in the regular season for runs scored (897) and home runs (151), leading the California League in both categories.

Shortstop Josuar Gonzalez, the San Francisco Giants’ consensus top prospect, has been a key offensive contributor since joining San Jose on July 24. Gonzalez hit .357 in 31 regular season games with six doubles, six triples, three home runs, 35 RBIs, and 13 stolen bases with a .444 on-base percentage and 1.010 OPS.

On the mound, the Giants will start right-hander Argenis Cayama in Game 1, the youngest pitcher on the staff who posted a 4.87 ERA in 15 starts and improved to a 3.24 ERA in four August starts. Jackson Flora, the organization’s top pitching prospect and 2026 first-round draft pick, is expected to start Game 2 at home. Flora recently made his professional debut, striking out two in a scoreless inning. The Giants led the California League with a 4.79 team ERA for the sixth consecutive season.

Lorenzo Meola, named San Jose Giants Player of the Year for 2026, paced the team offensively with a .269 average, 40 doubles, 15 home runs, and 78 RBIs. San Jose holds a 15-9 regular season record over Stockton but will look to advance past them for the first time in 11 years.

CSB Take

The San Jose Giants enter the playoffs poised to defend their California League title with a combination of record-setting offense, led by Josuar Gonzalez, and strong pitching depth featuring Argenis Cayama and Jackson Flora. Their sustained excellence, represented by a seven-season playoff streak and top league marks both offensively and on the mound, makes them a formidable opponent. The series against the Stockton Ports is a critical step in their quest for back-to-back championships and continued postseason success.
