Santa Clara University Extends Niall Angus as Head Coach of Men’s Tennis Through 2030

Santa Clara University has signed men's tennis head coach Niall Angus to a four-year extension through 2030 following a historic 2026 season including an NCAA berth and conference co-championship.

Santa Clara University has extended the contract of Niall Angus, head coach of the Broncos men’s tennis team, through the 2030 season, securing his leadership for four more years.

In his 10 seasons at Santa Clara, Angus has become the program’s winningest coach with a 138-85 record, surpassing Sean Burns’ previous record of 130 wins. He has led the Broncos to winning records in nine seasons and guided the team to national recognition.

Under Angus’ direction, the Broncos achieved a historic milestone in 2026, earning only their second NCAA Team Championship berth and winning their first-ever West Coast Conference Co-Championship. That season, the team finished with a program-best No. 7 ranking in the ITA mid-major team category and reached No. 38 nationally, the second-highest in school history.

Angus received the West Coast Conference Coach of the Year award and the ITA/Dunlap Coach of the Year honor for the Northwest Region. Throughout his tenure, 22 players have earned All-WCC singles honors and 15 teams have received All-WCC doubles accolades.

Expressing gratitude for the extension, Angus said, “I am incredibly grateful to Santa Clara University, Director of Athletics Heather Owen, Senior Associate Athletics Director Jaclyn Alongi-Lee, and the entire administration for their continued support and belief in our program. I am proud of what we have accomplished together and the culture we have built within Santa Clara men’s tennis. This extension is an exciting opportunity to continue that progress, build on the success we’ve already had, and keep pushing our program to new levels. Our goal is to compete for championships, develop outstanding young men, and make our university and alumni proud. I am thankful for the opportunity and excited for everything that lies ahead.”

CSB Take

Niall Angus’ contract extension underscores Santa Clara University’s commitment to sustained excellence in men’s tennis. His record-breaking tenure and recent historic achievements have elevated the Broncos on both the conference and national stages. Continued coaching stability will be vital as the program builds on its momentum, aiming to advance in NCAA competitions and enhance recruiting efforts over the coming years.
