The San Jose Sharks beat the St. Louis Blues 3–2 in overtime at Enterprise Center on Oct. 8. Darnell Nurse scored the winner 1:03 into the extra period, with Ivar Stenberg and Alexander Wennberg receiving assists. The win moved San Jose to 3–1–0 after four games.
San Jose answers two St. Louis leads
Connor McMichael put St. Louis ahead in the first period. Tyler Toffoli tied the game in the second, but Dillon Dubé's short-handed goal restored the Blues' lead early in the third. Collin Graf then scored to bring the Sharks level for the second time.
San Jose stayed in the game long enough for Nurse to finish in overtime. Toffoli ended with a goal and an assist, giving the Sharks contributions beyond the final scorer. Alex Nedeljkovic made 24 saves in his first appearance of the season.
Depth helps overcome an absence
Macklin Celebrini missed the game, so San Jose again needed other players to supply offense. The Sharks' first three wins of the season all came in overtime. Those finishes produced valuable points, while the repeated close margins showed how little room the team had to waste chances.
CSB Take
Nurse delivered the finish, and San Jose's supporting scorers kept that opportunity alive. The Sharks showed they could respond twice after falling behind without their captain in the lineup. They still need to improve their control of games so that collecting two points depends less often on one overtime play.
