Soka University of America President Ed Feasel Announces Major Expansion of Tuition Assistance Program

Soka University of America announced a major expansion of the Soka Opportunity Plan, increasing tuition coverage for undergraduate students from families earning up to $300,000 starting in 2027-2028.

At Soka University of America in Aliso Viejo, President Ed Feasel revealed a significant expansion of the Soka Opportunity Plan set to take effect starting in the 2027-2028 academic year. This initiative aims to broaden tuition support for undergraduate students based on family income levels.

The enhanced plan guarantees that every admitted undergraduate student from families earning $200,000 or less will pay no tuition out of pocket. Families with incomes up to $250,000 will receive assistance covering half of their tuition, while those earning up to $300,000 will have 25 percent of their tuition covered. These provisions apply to both new and continuing students enrolled at that time.

Additionally, each admitted student will be awarded a merit scholarship regardless of their family’s income level. The university’s Office of Financial Aid will then combine these merit awards with need-based grants and other tuition-specific aid to fulfill the tuition coverage outlined by family income.

President Feasel commented on the expansion, stating, “From our founding, this university has existed to educate global citizens committed to contributing to society, making our world more tolerant, just, compassionate, and sustainable. Cost should never be the reason a capable student doesn’t pursue that kind of education, and the Soka Opportunity Plan puts that belief into practice.” He also expressed pride in the initiative and optimism about the opportunities it will provide students.
