The Stanford Cardinal lost 3–2 to the Clemson Tigers in men’s soccer on Oct. 11 at Stanford. Clemson scored twice in a 78-second span late in the second half to overturn a 2–1 deficit. The result was Stanford’s third consecutive home loss.
Two leads erased
Alex Chow put Stanford ahead with a first-half penalty for his third goal of the season. Clemson tied the match on a penalty in the 73rd minute. Jayden Fitzgerald Boes restored the Cardinal’s lead three minutes later after carrying the ball through the Tigers’ defense.
Ransford Gyan equalized for Clemson in the 82nd minute. Stanford’s Logan Tsopanoglou was sent off, leaving the Cardinal with 10 players, before a deflected ball produced Clemson’s winning goal. The Tigers led 12–11 in shots, with both teams putting four attempts on target.
CSB Take
Stanford twice held a lead but could not protect it through the final stretch. The dismissal made an already difficult closing period harder to manage. The Cardinal can take encouragement from creating goals against a ranked opponent while addressing the lapses that decided the match.
