The Westmont Warriors defeated the Hawaii Pacific Sharks 2–0 in men’s soccer on Oct. 10 at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium in Honolulu. Leonel Olivo Ortiz and Julius Oehmichen scored to secure a PacWest road victory. Westmont improved to 4–6–4 overall and 2–1–1 in conference play.

Early lead and second-half finish

Olivo Ortiz opened the scoring in the sixth minute from a Kristian Johnson assist. Oehmichen doubled the lead in the 59th minute after carrying the ball forward from near midfield. It was his first goal of the season.

Aidan Strickler made three saves to preserve the shutout. Both teams finished with 10 shots, but Westmont put eight attempts on goal. The Warriors also earned seven corner kicks to Hawaii Pacific’s six.

CSB Take

Westmont made a set-piece opportunity count early and added the goal needed to protect its advantage. Putting most of its shots on target gave the attack a clear purpose. The defensive shutout ensured Hawaii Pacific’s equal shot total did not become a route back into the match.
