Woodland Community College Reaffirms Commitment to Student Safety, Equity and Support Services

Woodland Community College strengthened its message that all students deserve a safe and supportive campus, with protections under the California Values Act and the Equity in Higher Education Act, plus resources like the WCC Dream Center and TimelyCare.

Woodland Community College has reaffirmed its commitment to providing a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all students on its campus. President Dr. Lizette Navarette highlighted the college’s adherence to California laws and the availability of resources aimed at protecting students’ rights and well-being.

The college strictly follows the California Values Act (SB 54), which prohibits campus personnel from sharing students’ personal information with immigration authorities without a judicial warrant or subpoena. This policy reassures students of all immigration backgrounds that they can pursue their education without fear. Woodland Community College partners with organizations such as CHIRLA to offer “Know Your Rights” handouts in multiple languages, helping students understand their protections.

In addition, the college complies with the Equity in Higher Education Act, which protects students from discrimination or harassment based on race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, disability, and other characteristics. Students have guaranteed equitable access to campus opportunities and resources and are encouraged to seek assistance if they face discrimination or harassment.

The institution also upholds California’s constitutional guarantee that students have the right to attend campuses that are safe, secure, and peaceful. To support students, Woodland Community College offers the WCC Dream Center, which provides support, information, and referrals for legal services, as well as TimelyCare, a virtual platform providing health and mental health services available through the Student Portal.

Vice President of Student Services Ariana Velasco and Vice President of Instruction Dr. Kathy Sorensen join President Navarette in backing these initiatives that prioritize student safety, equity, and support.
