The Stanford Cardinal lost 4–1 to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in field hockey on Oct. 11 at Stanford. Wake Forest scored three first-quarter goals and led 4–0 at halftime. Stanford dropped to 8–5 overall and 1–4 in ACC play.

Early goals decide the match

The visitors opened the scoring just over two minutes into the match following a Stanford turnover. Wake Forest then converted two attacking penalty corners before the first quarter ended. A second-quarter counterattack extended its advantage to four goals.

Stanford limited Wake Forest to one shot and one penalty corner in the second half. Star Horlock broke up the shutout in the fourth quarter with her seventh goal of the season, a career high. Wake Forest improved to 9–4 overall and 4–1 in the ACC.

CSB Take

Stanford’s second-half response showed better control, but the early deficit left little room for recovery. Preventing turnovers and defending penalty corners are central to avoiding a repeat. Horlock’s scoring remains a useful part of an attack that must pair pressure with stronger starts.
