The Azusa Pacific Cougars won both matches of a women’s volleyball doubleheader on Oct. 10 to improve to 20–0. Azusa Pacific swept the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens in Claremont before returning home to sweep the West Coast Baptist Eagles. Sarah Wilson also reached 1,000 career kills during the second match.
Two matches and a milestone
The Cougars defeated Pomona-Pitzer 25–13, 25–14, 25–14. Brynja Martin and Jackie Winfield each recorded seven kills, while Flora Sebestyen had 13 digs and three service aces. Azusa Pacific used extended scoring runs to take control of each set.
Azusa Pacific then beat West Coast Baptist 25–11, 25–10, 25–7. Wilson recorded the two kills she needed for the career milestone during a brief appearance at the start. Martin led the Cougars with eight kills, and the team finished with 12 service aces.
CSB Take
Azusa Pacific maintained its unbeaten start through efficient scoring and strong serving across two matches. Contributions from reserves helped the Cougars handle the doubleheader without depending on one lineup. Pomona-Pitzer will seek a stronger response when extended service runs begin to create separation.
