Defense and long scoring passes
Farley found Bradley Chavez for a 28-yard touchdown before halftime. He then connected with TeNorris Merkel for a 66-yard score early in the third quarter. Ramirez sealed the result with a 62-yard interception return in the fourth.
Cal Lutheran held Azusa Pacific to 184 total yards, recorded four sacks and forced two turnovers. Farley completed 13 of 20 passes for 171 yards, while Merkel had four catches for 104 yards. The Cougars fell to 1–3 after being held out of the end zone.
CSB Take
Cal Lutheran’s defense kept the game controlled while the passing attack produced its biggest scoring plays. The turnover return removed any remaining room for a late comeback. Azusa Pacific needs more sustained offense to prevent its defense from carrying the full burden of a close start.
