Cal Lutheran Kingsmen Men’s Soccer Drop 4-2 Contest to University of Redlands After Leading 2-0

Cal Lutheran Kingsmen scored the first two goals against University of Redlands Bulldogs but lost 4-2 after Redlands scored four consecutive goals in a SCIAC match on September 30, 2026.

REDLANDS, Calif. — The California Lutheran University Kingsmen men’s soccer team started their game against the University of Redlands Bulldogs with a strong two-goal lead but ultimately fell 4-2 at Farquhar Field on September 30, 2026, in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match.

Maximo Schelotto scored the first goal in the 23rd minute following an assist from winger Tika Kakimoto. Schelotto maneuvered around a defender and delivered a cut-back finish inside the box to put Cal Lutheran ahead 1-0.

In the 38th minute, Dane Paulson extended the lead to 2-0 after executing a give-and-go with Schelotto and placing the ball past the Redlands goalkeeper.

However, Redlands rallied with four unanswered goals. The Bulldogs scored shortly before halftime in the 45th minute, then netted goals in the 52nd and 55th minutes. A penalty kick scored just under two minutes following the third goal gave Redlands a 4-2 advantage.

Cal Lutheran generated pressure in the second half, producing eight corner kicks and three shots on target, but Redlands goalkeeper Jaden Nisperos made all three saves to preserve the lead.

With the loss, Cal Lutheran’s record moved to 2-5-3 overall and 0-4-1 in SCIAC play. The Kingsmen will play at home on October 3 against Caltech in their Senior Night match, with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m. at William Roland Stadium.

CSB Take

Cal Lutheran’s initial two-goal lead showcased their offensive potential, particularly through the efforts of Maximo Schelotto and Dane Paulson. The University of Redlands’ four-goal run highlights the need for the Kingsmen to enhance their defensive resilience and maintain consistency across all periods of play. The upcoming home game versus Caltech presents an important chance for Cal Lutheran to build on their attacking strengths and refocus ahead of the remainder of the SCIAC schedule.
