LA JOLLA, Calif. — The Cal State Fullerton Titans women’s volleyball team opened Big West Conference play with a 3-0 loss to the UC San Diego Tritons on September 25, 2026. The Tritons won with set scores of 25-13, 25-23, 25-18, handing the Titans their ninth loss of the season and moving them to 0-1 in conference matchups.

Parys Taylor led Cal State Fullerton with eight kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Marisa Nakata reached the milestone of 200 career kills during the match and recorded her 15th service ace of the season. The Titans totaled 34 kills with a .125 hitting percentage compared to UC San Diego’s 40 kills and .270 hitting percentage.

The first set saw Fullerton struggle offensively, posting a .000 hitting percentage and seven attack errors as UC San Diego secured a dominant 25-13 win. The second set was tightly contested, with Fullerton building an early 6-2 lead largely due to Nakata’s service aces, but the Tritons rallied to take the set 25-23.

In the third set, Fullerton trimmed the deficit early with kills from Taylor and Kaia Herweg, narrowing UC San Diego’s lead to 7-4. However, a 5-0 run put the Tritons firmly ahead and they closed out the set 25-18 to complete the sweep.

The Titans will return to conference action on Saturday against UC Irvine, with first serve scheduled for 5:00 p.m. PT.

CSB Take

The Titans’ straight-set defeat in their Big West opener underscores the adjustments needed as they face conference competition. Individual performances from Parys Taylor and Marisa Nakata offer encouraging signs, but the team must work on offensive consistency and limiting errors to compete in the Big West. Saturday’s match at UC Irvine will be an important chance for Cal State Fullerton to regroup and build momentum early in league play.
