The Cuesta College Women’s Cross Country team won the Western State Conference (WSC) title on October 26, 2026, their first since 1993 and the eighth in program history. Freshman Carly Meeks led the team to victory while earning all-WSC First Team honors. Teammates Sophia Esparza Perez and Selena Trejo also made the First Team. Six Cuesta runners finished in the Top 20 at the conference finals, underscoring the team’s depth and strength.
Sophomores Bella Efner and Rebekah Waterbury received all-WSC Second Team honors. Efner was the Cougars’ top finisher in three races this season, and Waterbury won the Bulldog Invitational. Both shared the team lead in event victories during the regular season. The team retained all five scoring runners from the previous season, contributing to their strong performance.
On the men’s side, Cuesta finished sixth in the WSC Finals, led by freshman Anthony Perez, who placed 17th and earned all-WSC Second Team recognition along with Jeff Mendonca. The men’s team competed without two-time State Champion Weston Greenelsh and all-State harrier Anthony Frere.
Cuesta’s cross country teams now prepare for the Southern California Regional Meet on November 6 at Irvine Regional Park, followed by the 3C2A State Championships on November 21 at Woodward Park in Fresno.
