San Francisco Giants pitcher Darien Smith struck out four across three innings as the Scottsdale Scorpions beat the Surprise Saguaros 4–1 on Oct. 8. Smith allowed one run on two hits. He walked one of the 12 batters he faced.
How the game unfolded
Scottsdale scored all four of its runs in the third inning. Surprise answered with a run in the fourth but did not score again. The Scorpions finished with six hits, while the Saguaros had three.
Smith’s outing gave the Giants another pitching performance to assess during the Arizona Fall League. Four strikeouts accounted for nearly half of the nine outs he recorded. Keeping the walk total at one also limited the extra runners in his appearance.
CSB Take
Smith combined missed bats with a manageable number of baserunners in a winning team performance. The next useful question is whether he can repeat that execution across another outing. Fall League innings provide a concrete place to evaluate that consistency without drawing a conclusion from one game.
