The Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks defeated the San Francisco State Gators 1–0 in women’s soccer on Oct. 11 at College Creek Field in Arcata. Kyla Okamoto converted a penalty kick in the 16th minute for the only goal. Humboldt improved to 6–4–4 overall and 4–2–2 in the CCAA.
Okamoto scores, Beddoes protects the lead
Ari Beddoes made five saves to record an eighth shutout of the season. Four saves came before halftime as San Francisco State searched for a response. Beddoes added another stop after the break to protect the narrow lead.
The Gators held a 12–6 advantage in total shots and a 5–3 edge in attempts on goal. Okamoto, Lucy Al-Chokhachy and Elisa Garcia each put a shot on target for Humboldt. San Francisco State also earned four corner kicks to the Lumberjacks’ two.
CSB Take
Humboldt made an early scoring opportunity count and trusted its goalkeeper through the remaining pressure. That balance was enough to overcome the Gators’ larger shot total. San Francisco State needs more effective finishing to turn its attacking advantage into points.
