Los Angeles Knight Riders won their first Major League Cricket championship with a one-run victory over the Washington Freedom on July 18 at Oakland Coliseum. Los Angeles made 164, and Washington finished at 163/9.
Narine’s early wickets and the final-ball finish
Sunil Narine took three wickets during the powerplay, removing Mitchell Owen, Rachin Ravindra and Steven Smith. Those early wickets placed pressure on Washington’s chase.
Obus Pienaar reached his first T20 half-century as the Freedom recovered enough to take the match to its final over. Los Angeles held on through a finish that was decided on the last ball.
CSB Take
The Knight Riders’ early bowling breakthroughs remained important even as Washington made a late push. Preserving a one-run margin at the finish secured the franchise’s first MLC title.
