San Jose Earthquakes Trio Ousseni Bouda, Angus Gunn and Ronaldo Vieira Called to International Duty for September-October Matches

San Jose Earthquakes' Ousseni Bouda, Angus Gunn and Ronaldo Vieira have been called to represent Burkina Faso, Scotland and Guinea-Bissau respectively in key international soccer matches in late 2026.

The San Jose Earthquakes men’s soccer team announced that forward Ousseni Bouda, goalkeeper Angus Gunn and midfielder Ronaldo Vieira have been called to international duty for upcoming matches in late September and early October.

Bouda will represent Burkina Faso in Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers against Benin on September 25 and Central African Republic on September 28, followed by a friendly against Argentina on October 3 in Buenos Aires. Selected eighth overall in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft from Stanford University, Bouda has made 95 MLS appearances with 11 goals and five assists. At the international level, he has 16 caps and two goals for Burkina Faso, including a goal in a 1-1 draw against Senegal during AFCON qualifying in 2024.

Goalkeeper Angus Gunn will join Scotland for UEFA Nations League Group E matches against Slovenia (September 26, away), Switzerland (September 29, home), North Macedonia (October 3, away) and Slovenia again (October 6, home). Gunn started all three of Scotland’s group stage matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, earning a clean sheet, and has 25 international caps with seven clean sheets. He has appeared 10 times for San Jose this season and was recently named to the MLS Team of the Matchday following a shutout win over Houston Dynamo FC. Gunn previously played in England with Norwich City and Nottingham Forest.

Midfielder Ronaldo Vieira was called to Guinea-Bissau’s national team for AFCON Qualifiers against Tanzania on September 25 and Nigeria on September 29. Vieira joined San Jose late in 2025 from UC Sampdoria and serves as team captain. He has made 27 MLS appearances with 24 starts, leading the team’s midfielders in clearances. Internationally, Vieira represented England at youth levels before switching allegiance to Guinea-Bissau, making his senior debut in October 2025.

The Earthquakes will continue their Major League Soccer schedule with a rivalry match against LAFC at Levi’s4 Stadium on September 19 with kickoff at 4:30 p.m. PT.

CSB Take

The international call-ups for Ousseni Bouda, Angus Gunn and Ronaldo Vieira underscore their importance on both the club and global stages. Their participation in competitive international fixtures will provide valuable experience and growth opportunities. San Jose Earthquakes will need to manage their absences carefully but stand to benefit from the enhanced skills and leadership these players will bring back to the squad.
