University of San Diego Hosts First West Coast Conference Volleyball Match Against University of Denver

The University of San Diego hosts the University of Denver in their first West Coast Conference women's volleyball match at the Jenny Craig Pavilion on October 3, 2026.

The University of San Diego Toreros women’s volleyball team will host the University of Denver Pioneers women’s volleyball team on October 3, 2026, at noon at the Jenny Craig Pavilion in San Diego. This match marks the first-ever West Coast Conference (WCC) meeting between the two programs following Denver’s official entry into the WCC on July 1, 2026, after moving from the Summit League.

Both teams enter the match with matching 1-1 records in WCC play. Each team has swept Pacific and subsequently lost to Saint Mary’s in their recent conference contests. San Diego leads the WCC in opponent hitting percentage, holding foes to .152, and has achieved a hitting percentage of .319 over its last four matches. Denver ranks first in the league in attacks per set and kills per set, setting up a compelling contrast against San Diego’s strong defensive statistics that include second place in digs and blocks per set in the WCC.

The game will be available to watch live on ESPN+ with play-by-play announcer Braden Surprenant. Fans can also follow live statistics through StatBroadcast.

Key players for San Diego to watch include senior outside hitters Kierstyn Barton and Nemo Beach, junior setter Kylie Munday, and freshmen outside hitters Emma Brewer and Ryann Knuth. Defensive standouts such as libero Lauren Lynch and middle blockers BayLea Sparks and Meghan Scholz also play significant roles on the team.

San Diego and Denver have faced each other only once previously, in a volleyball match on September 12, 2009, which San Diego won 3-1. That matchup occurred before Denver joined the WCC. Saturday’s contest will be Denver’s first volleyball visit to the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

CSB Take

This WCC inaugural meeting between the University of San Diego and Denver women’s volleyball programs is a key milestone for both teams entering the conference. San Diego’s top-ranked defense will be challenged by Denver’s potent attacking offense, setting the scene for an intriguing competitive clash. How both teams adjust and perform will be important as they seek to build momentum early in their WCC campaigns and establish a new conference rivalry.
