Anaheim Ducks Recall Defenseman Travis Mitchell After Pavel Mintyukov Placed on Injured Reserve

The Anaheim Ducks recalled defenseman Travis Mitchell from the San Diego Gulls after placing Pavel Mintyukov on Injured Reserve with a lower-body injury, reinforcing their defensive roster for the 2026-27 NHL season.

The Anaheim Ducks have recalled defenseman Travis Mitchell from the San Diego Gulls, their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, on October 23, 2026. This move follows the placement of defenseman Pavel Mintyukov on Injured Reserve with a lower-body injury.

Mitchell, 26, began the 2026-27 National Hockey League (NHL) season with the Ducks, appearing in five games and registering three shots and nine penalty minutes while averaging 16 minutes and 36 seconds of ice time per game. Signed to a one-year, two-way contract on July 2, 2026, he made his Ducks debut on October 2 in a game at Vegas, logging a career-best 20 minutes and 38 seconds on ice.

In the AHL this season, Mitchell has appeared in four games with San Diego, going scoreless with five penalty minutes. He has played 14 career NHL games with Anaheim and the New York Islanders, recording one goal during nine games with the Islanders in the 2025-26 season.

Mitchell has skated in 167 career AHL games between the San Diego Gulls and Bridgeport, accumulating 34 points and 236 penalty minutes. He played collegiate hockey at Cornell University from 2019 to 2023, registering 47 points in 95 NCAA games. Born November 25, 1999, Mitchell is from South Lyon, Michigan, and is listed at 6 feet 3 inches and 202 pounds.

CSB Take

The Anaheim Ducks’ recall of Travis Mitchell is a clear response to Pavel Mintyukov’s injury, aiming to maintain defensive depth. Mitchell’s combination of NHL experience and physical play provides valuable reinforcement as the Ducks navigate the current roster challenge. His call-up presents an important opportunity for increased contributions at the NHL level during the season.
