The San Diego Gulls defeated the San Jose Barracuda 4-1 on October 24, 2026, at Pechanga Arena San Diego in an American Hockey League matchup. Assistant captain James Hamblin ended a seven-game goal drought by scoring twice, including his first power play goal of the season, helping the Gulls build a multi-goal lead in the third period.
Goaltender Laurent Brossoit secured his second win of the season by making 28 saves on 29 shots. Brossoit has appeared in six games this season, with a 2.56 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage, starting four of the last five contests.
Anton Wahlberg contributed two assists, extending his point streak to four games and tying for fourth in the AHL with nine assists and 10 total points this season. Defenseman Corey Schueneman scored his first goal and point of the season, adding veteran offense from the blue line in his 387th career AHL game. Nico Myatovic sealed the win with an empty-net goal and leads the Gulls with five goals this season.
The game grew physical in the second period, when Konnor Smith received a five-minute major for fighting—his first penalty this season. Herman Traff also was assessed penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct and roughing after an incident involving San Jose’s Phillip Sinn.
Assistant coach Kelly Buchberger emphasized the value of rest and development for the team’s many first-year players. The Gulls have a day off following the game before returning to host the Henderson Silver Knights on October 31 at Pechanga Arena San Diego.
CSB Take
The San Diego Gulls displayed strong team chemistry and key individual performances in their 4-1 victory. James Hamblin’s breakout multi-goal game and Laurent Brossoit’s reliable goaltending provide a solid foundation for the young roster. While physical challenges emerged during the game, the Gulls’ success demonstrates their potential to improve structure and vie for deeper playoff contention as the season progresses.
