The Chapman Panthers defeated the Occidental Tigers 15–12 in men’s water polo on Oct. 10 in Los Angeles. Chapman outscored Occidental 6–3 in the fourth quarter to decide a match tied through three periods. Three Panthers finished with three goals each.
Three hat tricks and a late finish
Sammy Hendrickson, Rylan Takahashi and River Lyon each recorded a hat trick. Matthew Cormican added two goals and three assists. Chapman finished with a 35–31 advantage in shots.
Alex Cacos made 11 saves and collected two steals in goal for the Panthers. Hendrickson and Cormican also had two steals apiece. Occidental stayed level entering the final quarter but could not match Chapman’s closing scoring run.
CSB Take
Chapman saved its most important offensive response for the final period. Contributions from several scorers made it harder for Occidental to contain one attacking option. The Tigers need more effective fourth-quarter stops to turn a level match into a stronger finishing position.
