Los Angeles FC named Xavi Tamarit interim head coach in its Oct. 1 announcement. Tamarit joined the club as an assistant in January. He took responsibility for guiding LAFC through the remaining 2026 season.
The appointment and first match
Tamarit brought more than two decades of coaching experience. His background includes work in England, Spain and Argentina. He holds UEFA Pro and CONMEBOL Pro licenses.
The appointment placed an existing staff member in charge of the team. Tamarit’s first match in the role ended in a 1–1 draw with Vancouver on Oct. 10. Denis Bouanga scored LAFC’s equalizer after halftime.
CSB Take
An internal appointment gives Tamarit familiarity with the players and their daily work. The closing fixtures provide limited time to translate that knowledge into consistent results. The Vancouver draw supplied a starting point for evaluating the change.
