The Las Positas College women’s basketball team began the 2026-27 season with two consecutive victories led by new head coach Patrick Coffey. The Hawks defeated Monterey Peninsula 57-47 on Oct. 29 on the road and then won 56-44 at home against Coalinga on Oct. 30.
After a challenging previous period marked by nine straight scrimmage losses, the team showed clear improvement in cohesion and competitiveness. Coach Coffey said the team “finally came together and really played as a team” and is optimistic about aiming for a winning overall record and a playoff mentality.
Against Monterey Peninsula, point guard Brooklyn (Brooke) Agdoma recorded 12 assists while backup center Karla Leon contributed 12 rebounds and nine points off the bench, stepping up when starting center Nadia Mirghani encountered foul trouble and fouled out late in the game. Sophomore inside player Sophia Lopez was steady down the stretch with key defensive plays including a big block and effective ball handling under pressure.
In the home victory over Coalinga, a first-year program, reserve Corinne Tucker scored 15 points, hitting three three-pointers and completing a traditional three-point play. Guard Noora Kaur achieved a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Hawks dominated rebounds, 50-17. The team played the final portion of the game with a four-on-five advantage after a Coalinga player fouled out; despite some initial confusion, Las Positas finished strong with a 12-0 run to clinch the win.
Coach Coffey acknowledged the team still makes beginner-level mistakes but noted the talent on the roster and their competitiveness against quality opponents in preseason. The Hawks face a demanding upcoming stretch with four straight road games, starting at San Jose City.
