San Diego Gulls Assign Defenseman Jackson Niedermayer to Tulsa Oilers in ECHL

The San Diego Gulls have assigned defenseman Jackson Niedermayer to the Tulsa Oilers in the ECHL for further professional development after his recent AHL debut. Niedermayer, son of Hockey Hall of Famer Scott Niedermayer, brings a strong collegiate background and early pro experience to Tulsa.

The San Diego Gulls have assigned 25-year-old defenseman Jackson Niedermayer to the Tulsa Oilers of the ECHL, the team announced on October 14, 2026. Niedermayer made his American Hockey League (AHL) debut this season, appearing in two games, including his first on October 4 at San Jose.

Last season, Niedermayer played in 17 games with Tulsa, contributing one goal and six assists for a total of seven points, along with six penalty minutes. He completed his NCAA career spanning five seasons between Bowling Green State University and Arizona State University, where he compiled 20 goals, 24 assists, and 44 points over 124 games, adding a plus-17 rating and 42 penalty minutes.

During his final collegiate season at Bowling Green, Niedermayer led all Falcons defensemen with a plus-16 rating and ranked second in goals and third in points among his positional peers. He is the son of Hockey Hall of Famer and former Anaheim Ducks captain Scott Niedermayer. The Newport Beach, California native stands 6 feet tall and weighs 201 pounds.

CSB Take

The assignment of Jackson Niedermayer to the Tulsa Oilers provides him with an opportunity for consistent playing time and further development in a competitive environment. Given his solid collegiate performance and brief AHL experience, this move could help him refine his skills and adapt to the professional game. As the son of an NHL legend, Niedermayer carries a notable hockey legacy, and continuing to gain experience at the ECHL level may prove valuable as he seeks to secure a long-term role within professional hockey.
