The San Diego Gulls assigned 25-year-old defenseman Jake Lee to the Tulsa Oilers (ECHL) following a standout collegiate and junior ice hockey career. Lee will continue his professional development during the 2026-27 season.

The San Diego Gulls of the American Hockey League have assigned defenseman Jake Lee to the Tulsa Oilers of the ECHL, the club announced on October 8, 2026.

Lee, 25, tallied 3 goals and 1 assist for 4 points with 17 penalty minutes and a plus-8 rating in 14 games with Tulsa last season. The Sherwood Park, Alberta native earned the 2025-26 Canada West Men’s Hockey Top Defenseman honor after leading all USports defensemen in points, goals and plus-minus rating during his senior season at the University of British Columbia.

During his tenure at UBC, Lee became the all-time leading scorer among defensemen with 42 goals and 65 assists for 107 points in 101 games, along with 92 penalty minutes. He also earned Canada West First All-Star Team and USports All-Canadian Second Team honors in 2023-24, in addition to Canada West All-Rookie Team recognition in 2022-23.

Before college, Lee played 277 career games in the Western Hockey League for the Seattle Thunderbirds and Kelowna Rockets, posting 31 goals and 89 assists for 120 points with 264 penalty minutes and a plus-44 rating. He earned WHL B.C. Division First All-Star Team honors in 2021-22 and was part of the Seattle Thunderbirds’ WHL Championship team in 2016-17.

Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 200 pounds, Lee will continue his professional development with the Tulsa Oilers this season.

CSB Take

Jake Lee’s assignment to Tulsa is a key move in his progression from a standout collegiate and junior career into the professional ranks. His offensive skills from the blue line and solid defensive play make him a promising asset for the Oilers, where increased ice time will aid his growth. This step fits within the San Diego Gulls’ approach of developing talent through the ECHL, potentially preparing Lee for expanded roles at higher levels in the near future.
