Tucker Ashcraft, a tight end for the University of Southern California Trojans football team, has become known for his toughness and relentless work ethic since transferring from Wisconsin after three seasons. He was drawn to USC because of the prominent role tight ends have in head coach Lincoln Riley’s offensive system and the support of position coaches Savage and Myers.
After losing a tooth in a collision at Wisconsin, Ashcraft wears a removable replacement tooth, known as a flipper, which he embraces as a symbol of toughness. He said, “If you look me up online, you see a guy missing a tooth in his headshot. I’m a gritty guy. Im going to go out there, hit people and make plays regardless of what it takes.”
Raised in a competitive household with three brothers, Ashcraft values the support and lessons from his family. His parents instilled in him the value of hard work, while his older brother, who rowed at the University of Washington, helped him with the mental side of collegiate athletics.
Ashcraft’s move to USC was motivated in part by the opportunity to be closer to his West Coast home near Seattle, approximately three hours away by plane. Being nearer allows for more frequent visits with family and friends, providing balance away from football.
Since arriving in Los Angeles, he has adapted to a new offensive system and recovered from an offseason injury. Ashcraft used the recovery period to improve his skills, crediting Coach Savage for his development in route running and Coach Myers for advancing his blocking fundamentals and footwork.
He now aims to translate his offseason work and learning into meaningful on-field production for the Trojans.
