Cuesta Women’s Basketball Opens 2026-27 Season at Taft Led by All-Conference Center Kinzie Amer

Cuesta Women's Basketball opens its 2026-27 season at Taft led by sophomore Kinzie Amer, with hopes to rebound from last year's 11-17 finish and return to playoffs.

Cuesta College women’s basketball team will begin its 2026-27 season on Friday, October 30, traveling to face Taft at 5 p.m. The Cougars aim to return to playoff contention after finishing last season with an 11-17 record, missing the postseason for the first time since their playoff appearances in 2024 and 2005.

Leading the team is sophomore center Kinzie Amer, recognized as the 2026 All-Western State Conference Center. Amer averaged 8.8 points, 6.7 rebounds, and a team-high 3.0 assists per game last season, demonstrating her ability to operate as a “point-center” by running the floor and initiating fast breaks. Veteran forwards Sophia Porter and Jenn Stambaugh bolster the frontcourt with defensive toughness and athleticism, contributing 7.2 and 4 rebounds per game respectively, while Stambaugh also averages 8.8 points per game.

The backcourt features returning guards Charlotte Hasson and Alyssa Gonzalez, forming a strong duo. Hasson led the team with 69 three-pointers at a 34.2 percent shooting rate and maintained perfect free throw shooting, while Gonzalez averaged 9.3 points per game and was second in assists behind Amer. The roster is further strengthened by seven newcomers, including guard Brooklyn Waldram, a transfer from Like Pacific University, along with other promising newcomers aimed at providing depth throughout the season.

The Cougars will make their home debut at Cuesta College against Hartnell on Wednesday, November 4, at 3 p.m., hopeful to capitalize on their improved roster and regain a playoff position in the competitive Western State Conference.

CSB Take

Cuesta Women’s Basketball shows clear signs of growth with a blend of experienced returners and impactful newcomers. The leadership of Kinzie Amer and the depth added by new players like Brooklyn Waldram could help the Cougars overcome last year’s struggles. How the team gels early, especially in the season opener at Taft, will be critical for their push to return to postseason play. The home opener against Hartnell provides an early opportunity to showcase improvement and establish momentum.
